FAQs
Below, we've provided answers to questions that families often ask about our OSHC programs. Have a question that isn't answered? Feel free to contact us to learn more.-
What food is provided at before and after school care?
Our before school programs provide a healthy breakfast, while our after school programs provide afternoon snacks. We also provide fruit. Perfect for getting ready for the school day ahead and refueling after a busy school day! -
What is your staff to student ratio?
Our OSHC programs meet the government requirements for educator to child ratios, which means we have a minimum of two staff supervising children at all times. -
What if my child has a medical condition or allergy?
If your child has an allergy, chronic illness or other medical condition, please ensure this information is included in your child's enrolment record.
Your OSHC Coordinator will help you complete the following documents so that we can support your child:- an in-date action plan signed by a doctor;
- a YMCA Medical Authorisation form (if medication is required at the program);
- risk assessment to support your child at the program.
All staff will have access to these documents. It's important to keep these up to date and inform us of any changes so that we can ensure your child's health and wellbeing.
If our educators need any special training to assist them in the daily care of your child, this must be arranged before your child starts at our service. -
When should I drop off or pick up my child?
Each of our OSHC locations have their own opening and closing times. Please find your location to view their opening hours.
If you're running late to pick up your child, don't worry. Please call your OSHC coordinator to let them know and two of our OSHC Coordinators will stay with them until they're collected.
If you can't collect your child, please arrange for someone else to do so and let us know. For safety reasons, your child can only be collected by an authorised person so please ensure their name and contact number is in your child's enrolment record and that they bring photo ID such as a current driver's licence.
If your child isn't collected by the end of the session / closing time, a late fee of $2.00 per minute may be charged. If we haven't heard from you, we'll attempt to contact you by phone. If we can't reach you, we'll try to contact your nominated emergency person (or people). If no contact has been made 30 to 45 minutes after closing time, the local police will be called.
You can find more information about this in our Delivery and Collection of Children procedure. -
Can my child attend before and after school care if they're not a student at that school?
Yes! Our OSHC programs are open to all primary school-aged children. While most children attend the program that runs at their school, some do attend OSHC programs at neighbouring schools.
We encourage families to still enrol as it's a great way for children to develop their social skills and make new friends outside of their usual friendship group. Plus, we'll help your child feel welcome and supported!
